Acupuncture 101

Even if you've never had acupuncture before, you've probably heard reports of its impressive health benefits. Acupuncture can help improve countless health conditions, such as low-back pain, depression, infertility, digestive disorders and much more.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture encourages the body to heal naturally. Acupuncturists insert sterile, stainless-steel needles into specific points located near or on the surface of the skin. This can alter biochemical and physiological conditions to treat health problem.

The points where the needles go are areas with electrical sensitivity. They've been mapped out over thousands of years and have been proven effective in the treatment of specific health problems.

How Deep Does the Needle Go?

Acupuncture points are located near or on the surface of the skin, usually 1/4 to 1 inch deep. For Pediatric patients or those hesitant to needles, Dr. Morgan offers needle-less acupuncture.

Does it Hurt?

Acupuncture needles are significantly thinner than hypodermic needles. They are so thin, in fact, that several acupuncture needles can go into the middle of a hypodermic needle. Many patients tell us they barely feel a thing!

How Long Do Treatments Last?

The needles are usually left in place for twenty to forty minutes. Most people find the experience extremely relaxing and uplifting and even fall asleep for the duration of the treatment. A nap that heals… What could be better than that?

Is it safe?

Yes, acupuncture is extremely safe and sterile. Because it's drug-free, you don't have to worry about taking several doses of a medication or suffering side effects.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Acupuncture is a gradual healing process, and healing time varies from patient to patient. You can schedule a consultation with Dr. Morgan to get an idea of how your unique treatment plan will look like.

Will My Insurance Cover Acupuncture?

Some insurance companies now offer policies that cover acupuncture and related services. Just give us a bit of information about your insurance, and we'll be happy to check. Also, acupuncture is generally tax deductible as a medical expense.

Acupuncture is an effective, natural way to treat many health conditions. It emphasizes a holistic approach that treats the whole person instead of isolating and separating a disease or health problem from the person.
